In an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have canceled this year’s Chef Prize, which was to be held at Hampton Green Farms in Fruitport, Michigan on September 13, 2020.

Chef Prize provides critical funds supporting the mission work of Kids’ Food Basket, which is  100% charitably funded local organization nourishing kids to reach their full potential.  Now, more than ever, in these unprecedented times, it is important to ensure funding of Sack Suppers is continued as we navigate through the impact of the global pandemic and the economic crisis that is the direct result.

Although the event cannot physically take place, the need to nourish thousands of local-area children remains.  A virus cannot and will not stop hunger.  Our annual goal for Chef Prize has always been to raise $100,000 to fund Kids’ Food Basket’s program of nourishing kids in Muskegon.  In light of the cancellation, an anonymous donor has graciously stepped up to match donations up to $60,000 and we hope those who can donate, no matter how small, will consider supporting our organization this year.

Your gift will make an immediate impact on the lives of young people in Muskegon County – improving their chance to be their best, in school, and life, for the long term. All gifts will be used to support the Muskegon Public School restructure.  Due to the restructuring, one of our current service schools, Nelson elementary has closed.  Students will either attend Bunker or Marquette elementary schools this coming fall, which will increase the number of students we serve from 1,200 to around 1,400 each weekday.  Your gift will have double the impact if given in September.  Online gifts will count as triple if given on September 13, 2020 (original Chef Prize date).

We are pleased to announce that we plan to continue holding the Chef Prize event at Hampton Green Farms in 2021, and have set a date of September 12, 2021. We hope to see you all there
