Volunteering at Kids Food Basket

We have many opportunities for volunteering here at Kids Food Basket. Here are some of the general ways you can help…

Group Activities
(great for school & church groups, sports teams, neighborhoods, scout troops, etc.)

  • Food Drives
We send out roughly 1,300 sack suppers per day here at KFB so we are ALWAYS in need of food. Especially juice boxes, peanut butter, sandwich baggies (zip-loc and fold tops), and our 8lb or Xtra-large lunch bags that we put the sack suppers in.

  • Trail Mix Project
This is a great "start to finish" project for any group. It starts your group at the process of collecting the food needed for the project and takes you through the mixing and packing it for the children to receive it in their sack suppers. Your group will see how much food it takes to feed the children in need and the effort that is associated with this mission.

  • Change Drives
It costs approximately 61 cents a day to feed a child with our sack supper. For Just over $100 you can feed a child for an entire school year! When groups collect change it really adds up to help feed our kids. We can purchase some of the food we use in our sack suppers at Second Harvest Gleaners for only .15 cents a pound!

  • Collecting and Decorating Bags
Each sack supper goes out in a large paper lunch sack. The need for sacks is great. We use 8lb or Extra Large lunch bags. When the kids who receive the sack suppers see the decorated sacks it makes their day! We have all ages constantly collecting and decorating bags for the kids we serve. They need to be colorful and appropriate for Pre-school through 5th grade Public School children.

Individual & Group Opportunities

  • Service at KFB
Sunday through Friday we have over 75 volunteers per day come through the doors of KFB. They serve in many capacities.

  • Packers and Sandwich makers
We pack and make sandwiches Sunday through Thursday each week. We have opportunities during the day, after school, in the evenings, and on Sunday afternoons through most of the school year and summer. You can contact us to talk about specific details if you were interested in volunteering yourself or with a group.
