Sack Suppers
At Kids’ Food Basket, we believe every Sack Supper we distribute is an important victory in the attack on childhood hunger. We began serving 125 kids with these evening meals, and in less than a decade we have grown to serve nearly 5,000 kids.
Sack Suppers mean that lunch does not have to be a child’s last meal of the day. They are an evening meal distributed at school and taken home. With over 1,000 calories and five food groups, each Sack Supper provides nutrition that’s critical to the development of healthy bodies and strong minds. Sack Suppers include:
-
One serving each of fresh fruit and vegetables
-
Meat/cheese sandwich
-
100% fruit juice box
-
Granola bar
-
Healthy snack
-
Snack pack (on Fridays, for weekend nutrition)
When paired with other meals at school, the Sack Supper is enough to meet daily nutritional requirements for children. Such a simple program has such a powerful impact, because it helps kids stay focused, get their homework done on a full stomach, and stay on track with other children. Research tells us this, but so do the kids – click here to read their letters to us!
Ready to get involved?
